I am so upset right now. It's been a sad Summer for the hockey world with the deaths of Derek Boogaard, Rick Rypien and Wade Belak. And now a plane crash has wiped out an entire KHL team(plus staff and some prospects).

"Though it occurred thousands of miles away from our home arenas, this tragedy represents a catastrophic loss to the hockey world- including the NHL family, which lost so many fathers, sons, teammates and friends who at one time excelled in our League. Our deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones of all who perished." - NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman

Alexander Galimov and a flight attendant survived... Galimov had 80% of his body burned and the doctors were saying he probably won't make it(and there's been conflicting reports he's already died). I can't even imagine what the mental toll of surviving such a tragedy would be, not even including adding the physical aspects of dealing with burns like that.

I've been wanting October to come faster for more hockey, but I also want it so this Summer of death can be over :(

Something I forgot to mention when talking about Fright Night: I was driving down the road, on the way to the theater when I notice something out of the corner of my eye. I look over to my arm, and there's a wasp crawling on me. Cue freaking the fuck out- I maneuvered my car into the parking lot of an abandoned garage, while the wasp fell down to the door. I leaned to my right and tried to calmly stop/park the car(it took a couple tries!). I quickly flung the door open trying to coax the wasp to take flight away from me, but it stayed on the door. And oh, I flung the door too hard so it came flying right back at me. adlfijadlfkjasdf So I hopped out of the car, which I then realized Mr. Wasp doesn't give a shit what I'm doing and is sluggishly moving along my door. So I ran around to the other side of the car and pulled out my snow brush, while some dude who is also oddly stopped in this abandoned garage looked at me. I swept Mr. Wasp off the door, then beat it on the ground a few times just for good measure. BITCH WOULD NOT DIE. So I finally stomped it. Then for the rest of the day I kept obsessively looking at my arm/around my car because I am terrified of Wasps and I have no idea how the thing got on my arm.

You can read about my other two silly wasp/bee driving encounters here.

TL;DR: Stay safe this weekend East Coasters

I am in Pottermore right now and it's so awesome I can't. It took me 5 chapters to realize you have to zoom in, oops. The extra info is fantastic! The info about McGonagall at school, and then Neville during his sorting ♥ I've been a flailing fangirl all day. Potion making is huge bitch though. I had to buy a new caldron because mine melted(and I lost 5 points for my house!).

So, I've always identified as Ravenclaw, but when it came to taking the test I accepted I would probably go that or Hufflepuff(A Ravenpuff if you will). I tried to answer truthfully, and while doing it I was like "that is such a Hufflepuff answer". So initially I was a little sad when I got my result, but now I've fully embraced the Puff. And the info about how to get into the common room and all that was really fascinating. I'm already plotting to make a Hufflepuff scarf. It's nice, because the Hufflepuff room is the only one you don't get to see in the books(and Jo touches on that with her extra info).

I saw Fright Night earlier this week. It wasn't a great movie, but it's one that made me laugh a lot and I enjoyed it. I would buy it and recommend others to go see it. I saw it in 2D, and you could tell where things would have been flying at your face in 3D. NO THANKS. Another amusing thing was that Kassie and I went to see the movie at the same time in different states without knowing it, heh.

This weekend Ryan and his girlfriend Abby are coming in to town and I'm going to show them around the Cuse. We're also going to head to the fair :) Of course stupid me forgot Doctor Who is back Saturday, so I will spend half the day agonizing until I can get home and watch. BUT, I will finally have my Haltigin jersey in my possession, as Ryan has been keeping it safe until we saw eachother again.

HAPPY
LEFT HANDER'S
DAY!

I hope all the lefties on my FL have had a fabulous day. I made a lefty NHLers spam on _pucking but it's locked, so here's a mini one with the people I care about(Sabres and Canucks, of course):

snipCollapse )

In other news, I got a letter yesterday from RIT with a code for either 4 free tickets to the Brick City Game or 2 tickets to the President's Alumni Ball(lol tough choice). It was because I volunteered in the past or something. I was expecting free tickets anyway because they give a ton away(I actually already won one), but this makes life easier. I bribe my friends into coming by getting free tickets for them. heh

I'm up to spend the morning with my Grandma while she gets her new chemo. It's like a 4 hour thing, so I'll have to figure out a way to keep myself not bored/awake(I couldn't sleep last night, blah). I've been taking her to the doctor a lot recently, but I haven't been with her for a treatment yet. Her doctor is the sweetest guy ever. She knows all the staff too, so she is always joking with the nurses. It makes the place a lot less... sterile.

In happier news, I beat the Elite Four, N and Ghetsis on Wednesday :D I was worried about catching Zekrom because Victini busted out of a million ultraballs, but my first try worked. Pfft.

So I'm attempting to get into football this season. It seems the only natural progression as I collect all the sports. I'm obviously going with a NY team, which leaves me with the Bills, Giants or Jets. I've already ruled out the Giants, and I'm leaning towards the Bills because I ♥ Buffalo. And it's more likely I'd get to a Bills game than a Jets game, and I have a lot of friends who are Bills fans. But I have to do a bit more research decide. I'm running out of time!

retroviral, my sports kindred spirit, is being awesomesauce and teaching me the ropes. I sincerely apologize to haro, abarero and gingeynary for our massive sports conversations on twitter that probably spam your feeds. My knowledge up to now is limited to 9th grade gym where I was on a "team" with my hippy friend, one semi-athletic kid, one really awkward guy and a geeky uber-religious born-again chick(#funfact since tomorrow is Left Hander's Day- 3/5ths of our team were lefties. ROCK). That, and the small amount of time I actually pay attention during the Superbowl.

I bolded the most important part of this post ;)

We were supposed to go to a family reunion today, but my mom didn't feel well. It's her side of the family, so we didn't go. I feel bad, I haven't gone in like 6 years. Tomorrow I have to go to a family friend's bridal shower. She's in one of those relationships where they're so perfect it makes you want to puke, so that should be fun.

Stef and I have restarted our book club. It was kind of random- since I couldn't start 'A Song of Ice and Fire', I decided to continue reading where I left off with Eldest. I spoke to Stef about it, and she had picked it up again as well! ~bff wavelengths. After we finish the Inheritance Cycle, We're going to move on to The Hunger Games. Yes, we're severely behind the times with everything.

Pokemon update: I've beaten all the gyms, now I'm working on building my team for the Elite Four. Right now it's shaping up to be:

Samurott

Zebstrika

Victini

Throh

Rufflet

6th spot will most likely be Druddigon or Sawbuck. I'm leveling both up to see who is looking best. I wouldn't rule out a last minute ghost toss in though.

let's talk Torchwood: Miracle DayCollapse )

Oh LJ, what are we to do with you?

-Jason Mraz is going on his 10 year anniversary tour. I've been a fan for 9 of them! The two dates remotely close to me in NYC straddle Thanksgiving, so that's not happening. He puts on a great show, I'm sad I'll be missing it. There's always the new album tour next year I suppose, but I'd really like to hear some old stuff.

-Saturday was a bipolar day- I had my Aunt's funeral in the morning and afternoon(It was sooo awkward when I was the only one not to go up for Communion), then my Aunt and Uncle's birthday/Anniversary party at night. They've been married 20 years, and both turned 40 this year. They have the kind of life you look at and really want.

-I picked up White for the first time in aaages today. I thought it had only been a month or so, but then 3 seasons zoomed past at the start. Oops? I just beat the 5th gym, so I still have a long way to go.

-So the main reason I decided to get watching Game of Thrones sooner rather than later was to avoid spoilers. I finished the first season last week and immediately went in search of communities to see what other people are saying. Then I realized there's the chance I could run into book spoilers. So now I feel like I need to read the books asap. What a vicious cycle! Welp, 5 more books to add to my ever growing pile of "READ ME". I'd write more on my thoughts later, but I'm lazy and probably never will. So I will say I like how every time I expect the story to go one way, it ends up running in the opposite. It keeps me wanting to watch more!

Hockey:
Enroth was signed, and Grags went on a boat trip with the Pegulas so I assume I shouldn't be as worried about him anymore. The Amerks have a new coach, and all is happy in Buffalo/Rochester.

This year has brought a lot of sports heartbreak, so I guess I'm used to it. I'm still ridiculously proud of the US Ladies, and at least they lost it to a deserving team. Congrats Japan :)

♥ Here's to the Olympics! (or whatever tournament is next)

12 years from when I started reading, and here we are.

To Harry Potter- the boy who lived! (Spoilers)Collapse )

I'm sure a re-watch will change my mind on some things/make me remember other commentary I had. I also think the fact I JUST finished re-reading the book 2 days ago plays heavily on my opinions.

-Robbie Cano won the HR Derby, heck yes. Plus winning it with his dad was so sweet :') It was also awesome how excited Granderson was to be there/to be rooting for Robbie.
-I listened to Cameleon Circuit's new album last night. It was quite a bit different from the silly, up-beatness of the last album. I guess I get why they left "Doctor What" off the album now. I like it, but not quite as much. I mostly listen to them in the car with my nephew- he refuses to listen to anything but "Doctor Who Music" and sings along. It's adorable. ANYWAY, I don't know if there are many songs on this album he'll like. Fun fact: his favorite Trock song actually isn't a Chameleon Circuit song, but Doctorin' the Tardis. XD;
-CHN says the CCHA is going after RMU, Niagara, Mercyhurst and Canisius. I do not want to lose any of them except Canisius. But if they took Canisius... seriously... there aren't enough lulz in the world. They suck and don't even have a rink. Pffft. The Big Ten hockey conference is ruining lives. Or at least the WCHA so far. DAMN YOU TERRY PEGULA.
-Speaking of T-Pegs, give Enroth what he wants. Please. :___:

-I've got about 150 pages left of Deathly Hallows. If all goes to plan- I'll finish that tonight, watch movies 5 and 6(*still hate it*) tomorrow, then 7-1 before we head off to the movie theater on Thursday.
